I purchased three small 9cm pots of Fargesia rufa, or Fountain Bamboo plants that had been through a rough patch and struggling to thrive. I was worried I might lose these plants, but with some extra care and attention, I am happy to report that it has recovered nicely.
To revive my Fargesia rufa, I planted them in a container using peat-free compost, kept it well watered and pruned away any dead or damaged branches to encourage new growth. I moved the container to a suitable location where it could receive the right amount of sunlight and protection from harsh elements.
After a few months, I noticed signs of recovery in my Fountain Bamboo. New shoots started to emerge, and the leaves began to look healthier and greener. I was overjoyed to see my plant bouncing back. The Fargesia rufa now looks vibrant and happy, even if a viola has sneaked in to share the container.
Fargesia rufa is a well-behaved small clumping variety of bamboo that does well in containers, restricting its height, which can reach three meters. The characteristics of this variety mean that it will not run, making it safer for smaller gardens.
